One layer sweet life

All stamping on this one.  I liked building the flourish.

Sponged poppies

I wanted to try an emboss resist card with this Hero Arts stamp, so I stamped text, stamped the poppy image with versamark and heat embossed with clear powder, then sponged distress ink into the unembossed flower areas.  The border happened by accident after sponging - I was going to trim the image, but liked the result.

 

I so desperately wanted to put a ribbon on the left side, but it was just too much with the small text and flourishes.  I went a little overboard with the flourishes I think.  Ooops, oh well.  Maybe I'll add a double ended banner for the sentiment at the bottom instead.  And a button. So much for my plans for a flat card.  :)

Kinda moody

That's the feeling this card makes me think of.  :)

I started off with Curio PP and built everything around it.  I wanted the stamped flowers to come out brown, but the ink turned black on the image and I think it probably turned out better as a result.  I actually decapitated the butterfly a bit as it was just a little too big.  The ribbon is the shade of Pinefeather - not one I thought I'd reach for so soon.

4 bar!

I've only learned about '4 bar' cards recently - they are 3.5 x5''.  The inspiration for the cards is from here.  I like the originals much better than my CASE's, but I wanted to try them in colour.  There will be a greeting on the lower right, just over the bottom flourish.

This one is a Lemon tart base with Harvest gold doily.

This one is a Melon berry base with a Berry sorbet doily.

And finally a Plum pudding base with Royal velvet scallop circle.

5 x 7 TY

I felt like I was getting in a rut with the standard A2 cards, so tried something different.  5 x 7'' and oh my - it was a lot of space to work with.

It came out a bit bottom heavy - I think I'm all cured of my wish for big canvasses for awhile!

Grown-up Valentines

I had a sheet of patterned paper I liked, so I matched up the colours to cardstock/ribbon, then stamped a sentiment in black and versamark and heat embossed.

I was lucky that my other wanted stamp from 2010 Love Tags was on sale from the same person on the forum!!  It was obviously meant to be.  :)

The backgrounds are stamped in versamark but a little hard to see in the photos.

PTI blog hop - holiday

This month's theme was to create a card for a winter holiday that is not Christmas, in order to celebrate diversity.  I chose to do a card for Chinese New Year for a dear friend.

I used a red panel, as the colour red is thought to ward off bad luck.  The paper has flecks of gold and silver and looks very festive.  I embossed an image from BB: Retro with gold powder as this sort of reminded me of lanterns, and the colour gold also plays prominently in the festivities, and symbolizes posterity. 

Looking at it now it looks like the layout needs something in the right side - will have to address that.

I die cut shapes for the sentiment in cream and fine linen, stamped a flourish in versamark, sponged some distress ink on the outer cream die cut to soften, and popped the whole thing up on dimensionals.  I'm excited to send this one out!

Trying Something Different

I wanted to try some cards outside of my usual style.  My starting point was a sheet of tag die cuts  - botanicals, butterflies and so on.  Sort of vintagey in appearance.   I thought some distress ink sponging would go well together with those images.
Took a deep breath, jumped right in before I had a chance to change my mind. 
Turned out very different for me, but I like it! 

This one has the flourish embossed with red ink. The sponging is quite a bit messier than I'm used to doing, but like I said, I just kept going so I wouldn't second guess myself.

This flourish was stamped with versamark and clear powder embossed.  I used the resist technique with distress inks to make the image appear.
